Mr. Knee

by Marcel Tadeusz Jarocki

One of the works presented during the Grand Finale of Market Groseria was a performance, the title of which emerged during discussions after the execution of a short scene. “Mr. Knee” is a short story of the titular character, whose performance and direction were created by Marcel Tadeusz Jarocki. Marcel used his body to create a conceptual character resembling a puppet. The art of puppetry, pantomime, and physical theater inspired the artist to delve into the themes of transience and shifting perspectives.

“Mr. Knee is a humorous character, whose only problem is his love life.” – says the artist.

But perhaps behind the symbol of the knee lies a deeper layer of artistic references? Maybe behind the leg with hands and in the shirt, there is a metaphor for understanding our lives and what comes after them? What is the meaning of our existence? Perhaps the artist is trying to show us what the task of a human being is?

“No.” – answers the artist, Marcel Tadeusz Jarocki – “This grotesque performance was merely a brief reminder of where we should seek love and who we should love most of all – ourselves.”
