by Katarzyna Kupiec and Malik Meyer
The research and performance project with the working title iluzoryczny/illusorisch is a collaboration within the Zaytun Ensemble between Katarzyna Kupiec and Malik Meyer, in which the artists explore the subject of fear in terms of Illusional thought patterns in society. The artists work with their own perspectives and discover their approaches through exchange and engagement with initially visual fragments: with Katarzyna Kupiec in the acting role and Malik Meyer in direction, the aim of the research is to find the core of language in relation to the theme and develop a performance that is structured like a monodrama.
In the space of Market Groseria, they focused on rehearsal work with pre-developed sketches and oriented themselves towards physical and poetic elements to shape the first actions for the performative work. Mainly through exchange and active interaction between the artist in experience (Katarzyna Kupiec) and the observing artist (Malik Meyer), the duo developed various fragments in the form of sketches, patterns, and movement elements. They also drew inspiration from the works of the painter Käthe Kollwitz, who, through her body of work, dealt with human emotions closely related to the theme of fear. Based on this confrontation with the artist's works, they explored personas and smaller stories that could, in turn, form a larger narrative. Through interpretations, they tried to connect these elements.
