Fantastic Collections by Mira Jochimsen and Joanna Kerkelä
Dust full of needles by Bartłomiej Mikuła
23.09.24
Bartłomiej Mikuła, Mira Jochimsen, and Joanna Kerkelä came to the store with two works: Dust full of needles (Kurz pełen igieł) and Fantastic Collections. These were in the artistic process at the time and were meant to be shared with the audience from Stolec. For the first time, contemporary dance took place in the store, and afterward, there was an opportunity to interact with the audience and experience their perspectives. The space presented a challenge to the dancers as it was not a typical dance space, so they spent time in the store, before sharing, to understand the space and how they could work there. They were able to give the space a new form.
Mira Jochimsen and Joanna Kerkelä explored the space with their work in an experimental manner, suggesting interruptions in the dance work through playful activities. Fantastic Collections exposed the store to a new, but still minimal, setting. The objects they placed in the space invited people to observe the performance interactively.
Bartłomiej Mikuła followed with his work Dust full of needles. Here, he dealt with the theme of the obsession with order and structure, moving through the space with verbal and physical elements. The audience had the opportunity to follow not only his dance but also the word fragments he left in the space through speech, interacting with his choreography.
The artists opened new doors for the architecture of the Groseria market and provided new impressions for the people of Stolec. This was reflected in the exchange, with questions stimulating thought paths for both the artists and the audience.
